FAQ

The University of Utah Parent Fund is a partnership with parents and families in support of student success, regardless of major or year in school.

How will my gift help?

Private gifts allow University leadership the ability to respond to an ever changing student body and ensure a timely response to critical opportunities. Gifts to the Parent Fund benefit students in three mission critical ways: promote student success to transform lives; develop and transfer new knowledge; and engage communities to improve health and quality of life.

Why ask parents to give?

The University of Utah receives less than 8% of its budget from state appropriations. Consequently, the U must look to private donors to help fill this gap and maintain the quality of its programs.

Undergraduate tuition and fees cover just 28% of the costs associated with a University of Utah education. Parent support helps ensure students have access to the exceptional educational opportunities. Your gift encourages other parents to support student success.

How much should I give?

All gifts, no matter the size, enrich life at the University of Utah. Small gifts add up and quickly make a difference. Your participation is vital to sustaining the tradition of excellence at the University of Utah.

We ask that you consider making the Parent Fund one of your top philanthropic priorities while your student attends the University of Utah. Leadership gifts of $2,500+ have a large impact on the Parent Fund and come with specific benefits.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

The University of Utah is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization. All gifts to the Parent Fund are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law, but circumstances vary depending on each donor’s individual financial situation. We encourage you to consult with your tax attorney/advisor concerning the deductibility of your gift.
